GE Buildings: Visiting New York
Known as the RCA building until 1988, what is now known as the GE Buildings is famous for housing the television NBC network. At 850 feet tall, the 70 story building is the 8th tallest building in New York City.
This building has a unique history, which has changed much since it was first built. Completed in 1933 as part of the Rockefeller center the GE buildings were named the RCA building for the radio corporation of America. These were the first buildings to have elevators in the central core. A national broadcasting company, which is known property of General Electric, leased the building to the Rockefeller family stayed on the floor 56 in the room 5600. Now the space is occupied by the family and associates between the 54th floor and the 56th floor of the building.
Nicknames for the buildings include the slab and 30 rock. This famous building also has many features, features which are both unique and attractive. It is recognized as one of the skyscrapers, of New York the main entrance was executed with a slogan that says “Wisdom and Knowledge shall be the stability of they times.” These buildings have no spire on it’s roof, but these buildings do have decks so that you may view the city below.
The GE Buildings are well known for the headquarters of NBC and the NBC studios. Sometime in 96, NBC bought 1.6 million square feet of space since 1933. This allowed the company to introduce technologies and renovate the space. It then gave options to renew the lease on the today show. The buildings are beautiful in the night time because of its glowing lights, which also make it a tourist attraction. Also known as the General Electric building, the GE buildings has 70 floors. Moreover, the buildings house a lot of productions like the Today Show, dateline NBC, MSNBC, Nightly news, 30 Rock, and also Saturday night live. If you are ever in New York City you should visit this famous building as each day the buildings have millions of visitors and tourists. All tourists end up at the top of the building. At the top of the building there is an event room and restaurant named the rainbow room, which has been redone with new operators. Below the GE buildings are a shopping mall and lobby. There is an observation dock atop the skyscraper called top of the rock and has reopened to the public in November of 2005 after a $75 million dollar renovation. Before that it has been closed since 1986 for renovation of the rainbow room. Whenever you visit New York City go to the GE Buildings and tour the beautiful sky scrapper and it’s content, You will be able to site see, eat, shop, and see all of what it has to offer. You can book a tour in advance and can take your entire family, even the kids ages 6 and up. The best time to come and visit this wonderful building will certainly be around Christmas time. But no matter the season you will enjoy this beautiful building.
